In the other virtual farm tour video from World Ag Expo, Michigan dairy producer John Verhaar explains his experience in dealing with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

He was convicted of hiring and harboring unauthorized workers. He was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to pay hefty fines. John believes his challenges in finding qualified labor for his dairy are similar to other producers.

What’s coming for WAE 2013, Part I
The 2013 virtual farm tours will feature:

• Bar 20 Dairy, Fresno, California – Peek inside the modern dairy management, attentive cow care and new technologies used at the dairy supplying more than half of the milk marketed under the well-known Producers Dairy milk label.

• Lucky Layla Farms, Plano, Texas – Meet a Texas dairyman “lucky” enough to survive milk price volatility who still loves milking and breeding high-quality Jersey and Guernsey cattle. He makes an award-winning drinkable yogurt distributed throughout the U.S. and also sells raw milk near the Dallas metropolitan area.

• Medeiros and Sons Dairy, Hanford, California – See how a second-generation, 24-year-old dairy manager is investing in the little things to make big improvements in his family’s 2,500-cow dairy. Hear his long-term plans to continue to move the dairy forward.

  1. we are proud of you guys! You did a great job deciding to share your story! Big Hugs and Greetings from the Netherlands!
  2. Really feel sorry for this family. I do have to wonder where were their accountants, legal team, etc. when they first got set up in America? They should have been advised on proper use of I-9's, etc.so as to avoid all these problems. 2.7 million dollar fines? They should have given this bill to whoever set this family up in America. They sure didn't do their job. I am familiar with another such incident where poor guidance cost alot.
