During the month of August, the Greene, Morgan and Jasper County extension agents along with Dr. John Bernard, UGA Dairy Specialist, presented a workshop for Georgia dairy farmers on calf raising.

el_english_badgeThe planning of this event started two years ago when producers from Greene, Morgan, Putnam and Taliaferro counties were surveyed regarding their educational needs. These counties represent around 30 percent of the state’s dairy industry.

Dr. Noa Roman-Muniz, from Colorado State University, will lead a workshop titled, “The people management skills for Hispanic supervisors,” on Tuesday, September 20, in Chilton, Wisconsin. The one-day workshop will be conducted exclusively in Spanish.

091611_crossover1On August 24, several dairy employees from the Magic Valley region gathered at the Progressive Publishing corporate office in Jerome, Idaho, to participate in the 2011 Dairy Crossover Seminar.

This seminar was aimed at teaching employees about antibiotic residues, an important and timely topic that applies to each of them and the work they perform on a dairy.

This year, 15 dairy employees ranging from herdsmen, hospital pen managers and calf raisers attended the conference.

081811_pdpwThe Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin (PDPW) has declared August Hispanic Training Month and, at the suggestion of its Hispanic advisory committee, will be offering several workshops – taught completely in Spanish – for Hispanic dairy workers.

In addition, in September, PDPW will offer an exclusive workshop for Hispanic supervisors. It will also be taught in Spanish.

While livestock producers have realized that significant animal illness can be avoided by the use of antibiotics, consumers are being told that any use of antibiotics leads to a lower effectiveness of antibiotics in humans.
