I often am asked, “Can there be too much positive feedback?" My answer is that it is almost impossible to have too much quality positive feedback. What then is quality positive feedback? Quality positive feedback has two attributes.

Chances are you worked at other jobs before you chose to work at a dairy farm, right? Maybe you have past experience working in restaurants, factories, landscaping or construction.

But now you’ve decided to work in the dairy industry. So the question is, are you a professional dairy worker?

When visiting different dairy operations, it is relatively easy to tell the difference between the operations that are doing well and those having a rough time. Large, medium-sized and small dairies that are successful all have several characteristics in common.

I believe the common denominator that stands out in the successful operations I visit is that they have all developed a solid workforce.

The dairy workforce will be neither effective nor efficient, though, if the personnel in charge of the different areas on the farm are not ideal, not trained, not qualified, not motivated or not fairly and appropriately evaluated.

Do you think it’s possible to work fast and still do a good job? Or do you think the only way you can do a good job is by working slowly?

When I lived in Chihuahua, I was always amazed at how fast the street food vendors could make some of the best burritos, tacos, and tortas I’ve ever had.

They didn’t need to make food slowly in order for it to taste great. And, of course since they’re serving food, they always kept their food carts very clean and organized.
