For Gilvan da Silva, moving permanently to the U.S. from Brazil wasn’t in his original plans.

Gilvan, known better as “Chico,” is currently the herdsman at Skyview Dairy, a 1,200-cow dairy near Hutchinson, Minnesota.

As you travel across the heifer feedlot, the atmosphere is calm, despite knowing that there are workers moving cattle through the pens.

Noe Montes, the feedlot manager, explains that there are several teams at work to ensure that the operation is always running efficiently.

The dairy, located near Buckeye, Arizona, consists of two facilities with three milking parlors and currently has more than 3,500 milking cows.

Cesar first began working on dairies in California’s San Joaquin Valley taking care of calves, which transitioned to milking, moving cows, taking care of fresh cows and finally working as a breeder before taking the position of manager at this dairy.
