In seventh grade, I memorized the Gettysburg Address. At the time, the speech was just pleasing words grouped together in a concise poetic manner.Not too many Sundays ago, a little girl came to church in her jeans and T-shirt. She got up in front of the congregation and said, “It is not a matter of how you dress or if you come to church or not – it’s what’s in your heart that makes the difference.” She sat down.
I was taken aback. She was right. It doesn’t matter to God how you dress. He loves you anyway, but there was something that didn’t sit well with me.
It went against what I had been taught, but I was willing to consider her point of view. What did God really expect?
