With summer just around the corner, maybe you’re thinking about taking some time off to travel.

In late March, I had the opportunity to travel to Nevada to interview the dairy manager featured in this issue of El Lechero.

I made my way down to Amargosa Valley, which is approximately 90 miles northwest of Las Vegas.

When thinking about the work that goes into making a dairy successful, it’s very important to understand why things are done the way they are.

Tereso Franco, one of the managers at Ponderosa Dairies, a group of dairies in Amargosa Valley, Nevada, gives his employees theoretical knowledge followed by hands-on training in order for them to fully understand their work.

A few days ago I attended a conference for dairies in our community.

While visiting with some fellow colleagues, one of them started talking to me about a situation on his dairy that had upset him.

Since November 7, 1986, employers have been required by law to examine documents and complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form to verify that all new employees are authorized to work in the U.S. On March 8, 2013, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) released a new Form I-9.

This article discusses changes in the new form and general employer obligations related to the I-9.

Can you believe we are well into another year? It seems like just the other day I was thinking about how I needed to start making plans and setting goals for 2013.
