Before we start, I have two questions for you. First, do you like your current job, or are you just doing it because there is nothing better to do at the dairy? Second, do you know that in your current job you play a very important role at the dairy?

Working at the maternity pen is one of the many very-important jobs at the farm. Why? Let us think for a moment. If there are no fresh cows, no lactating cows and no newborn calves, we will have no cows in the future.

One of the things that resonates the most with Javier Saenz’s management style is the importance of teamwork. After working for several managers who did not value their employees, Javier sought to be different.

0311el_martinez_editorial_1In the past few months, I’ve noticed the number of programs and materials that are available for dairy employees to use as training resources.

Earlier this year, we included a survey in Progressive Dairyman magazine which included one section designated as the El Lechero section. The results from this section help us assess where the Hispanic workforce is today in terms of its influence on a dairy and to see how this changes from year to year.
