Poll to be reset, count new votes on revised plan In the last two issues of Progressive Dairyman, we’ve been asking for your opinions of the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) Foundation for the Future (FFTF) dairy policy reform plan. We appreciate each and every one of you who answered our yes or no question of “Are you in favor of the FFTF dairy policy plan?” and those of you who also took the time to send us your written opinion. We believe that it is because of comments from dairy producers, shared with us, your co-ops, other dairy organizations or directly with NMPF, that we must make an unprecedented change in the course of this PD Poll.

Those comments have been heard and significant changes were made to the policy ( Click here for details ). Due to those changes, we have decided to end this poll sooner than expected.

Votes recorded to-date represented opinions on the FFTF plan presented at grassroots meetings this summer and the related discussion draft legislation released by Rep. Collin Peterson (D-Minnesota). Because of the new changes, we feel a portion of you may change your opinion of the policy.

Therefore, we have decided to hit the reset button. We have closed the previous poll and tallied the results.

Beginning with this issue, we have a similar but new question for you. “Are you in favor of the Dairy Security Act of 2011?” This is the official act introduced to Congress that reflects the changes made last month to the FFTF plan.

If you voted in our earlier rounds, we do ask that you cast your ballot again, even if your opinion has not changed. This will provide us with a unique opportunity, to not only see how everyone likes the new policy, but also how the changes made to the plan were received by our readers.

If you have not yet voted, you too are encouraged to share your opinions on the matter. PD
