Trans Ova Genetics recently achieved ISO 9001 certification. ISO 9001 is an international standard to certify that a qualified company is capable of meeting client requirements. Designed by the International Organization of Standardization, the ISO 9001 standard covers all of the activities that a company does to meet the requirements of its clients. As part of the process to achieve ISO 9001 certification, Trans Ova Genetics was audited by an independent auditor, known as a Registrar, and passed. In addition to being audited every six months by the Registrar, Trans Ova Genetics also has a team of internal auditors that checks all areas of the company at scheduled intervals. Trans Ova Genetics’ internal auditors look for evidence that staff members are capable of performing their assigned tasks, the correct tools and resources are available, work is done according to instructions, and jobs previously done have been completed correctly. If the internal auditor’s findings do not match what is said to be, this is reported. When evaluated as appropriate, these findings are turned into corrective action requests for follow up and corrective action by the area that was audited. Trans Ova Genetics’ management team reviews the progress of corrective actions during regularly scheduled meetings. Companies can become ISO 9001 certified to do business with other companies. For example, companies that provide automotive parts to Ford Motor Company must be ISO 9001 certified. In contrast, Trans Ova Genetics became certified “in order to continually improve our ability to meet client requirements,” says John Metzger, quality leader at Trans Ova Genetics. —From Trans Ova Genetics news release
