I am a third generation dairyman who has a passion for cattle genetics. I was born and raised on a dairy, and I also owned and operated a 2400-cow facility in Texas. What education are you bringing to this position? I majored in dairy science at Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo; however, my education and experiences gained while on the farm bring a lot to the position too. What are your new responsibilities? In a team effort with our local Genex representatives, I help to provide outstanding cattle genetics, customized reproductive service and on-farm consulting. Our team works to improve genetic progress and the genetic value of the herds we serve through the use of the high genetic merit sires in the Genex dairy and beef lineups. What territory will you cover? Washington and Oregon What excites you most about working in your new role? The cattle genetics industry is one that I love and am passionate about. I want to see producers improve production and conformation in their herds through use of the products and services we have to offer. Genomics (genomic-proven sires and genomic testing) is also a tremendously exciting development for the cattle genetics industry that will help to further improve herds. How will you be of most help to producers in your region or area of expertise? I know pedigrees and understand the dairy economy so I am able to effectively assist producers in making strategic genetic decisions. What’s your best story from the first day on the job? I think I asked 200 questions! Why did you choose this company? Genex is the leader in Lifetime Net Merit. I would like to increase awareness among producers of how high quality genetics can positively impact their herds and their farm profits. PD
