Several events related to the dairy industry are quickly drawing near. In this article you can read about two events that will take place in April and May. These two international events offer training opportunities to the dairy producer. Expoleche ![]() Expoleche, a dairy event considered “the most important international dairy symposium in Mexico,” will take place in San Marcos, Aguascalientes, April 27 – 29. This event first took place in 2000. For several years, it was held in different cities around Mexico. In 2008, it was held in Aguascalientes. This state has been hosting the event ever since. Among the different speakers this year will be Dr. Geoffrey Smith from the University of North Carolina, Jay Shearer from the University of Iowa and Dr. Ricardo Flores Castro from the National Forestry and Agriculture Research Center of Mexico. Carlos Cortes, from the Expoleche public relations team, tells us a little bit more about the event. How has the symposium changed since its inception?“The symposium has changed a lot from when it started because, for starters, the commercial presentations have steadily decreased over the last four years. There have been only educational presentations with a professional content which has resulted in the audience being solely related to the agricultural industry and the productive and sectional development. This has made the current symposium much different than when it started. It is now a real forum of current information for the benefit of the productive sector.” Why is it important to attend this symposium? "Expoleche San Marcos is important because the attendees will be given the opportunity of acquiring, improving or updating their knowledge through the conferences that have been carefully planned. It also gives the participants the chance to meet and spend time with professionals, veterinarians, engineers and to establish fruitful relationships.”What is the main goal of the symposium? “The main goal of the event is to provide an information forum for the participants in order to make the work systems more professional and increase the technical level so they can make the industry more productive in Mexico and other countries.” What do you expect the attending dairy producers will learn at Expoleche? “We hope they will get the most out of all that will be discussed during the event. This year the theme is “Preventive and productive medicine in the dairy farms”. This will provide a lot of information on the medical and health aspects like disease prevention, potential risks to the herd and milk production and its effects on human health; the final consumer.” Mercoláctea 2011 Mercolactea 2011 will be held May 11 – 14 in the city of San Francisco, located in the Córdoba province of Argentina. This event promotes the training of producers, professionals and entrepreneurs in the dairy industry. The participants will also have the chance to see the latest technology and novelties in the dairy industry. ![]() Mercoláctea has come to be known as the most important event of the dairy industry in Argentina and South America. In fact, this year it has grown, adding one day to the event. Some of the activities happening during Mercoláctea will be the “training seminars,” and several competitions like the cheese contest, milk candy contests, ice-cream contest, preserved forage contest and cattle judging. Sofía Grandjean, member of the public relations team for Mercoláctea, answers a few questions about this event. How has this event changed from its beginnings? "Mercoláctea has changed because every year we obtain feedback from the exhibitors and the attendees to get a feeling of their real needs. We have incorporated these contests, which allow the contestants to compare results with their peers." Why is it important to attend the event?"Attending this event is important because this is an expo that encompasses the entire dairy productive chain and there are topics of interest for all of the segments involved." What is the main goal of the event? "Our goal is for this event to become a place where all the people involved in the industry can meet, find business opportunities and obtain knowledge so that they can constantly improve their competitiveness, development and sustainability." What do you expect the attending dairy producers will learn at Mercoláctea? "We hope they will be aware of the fact that we are facing a global food shortage and that Argentina has an important role in this challenge."
