A recent article states: “The message of His Holiness Pope Francis for the 48th World Communications Day announced that the Internet is a gift from God”.

The Pope’s announcement caused quite a stir. People seemed to rejoice and were gleefully suggesting that now we can do anything we want.

As the White House prepares for its famous Easter Egg Roll, the nation prepares to celebrate another holiday gone amiss. The stores bulge with chocolate bunnies, eggs and cellophane grass-filled baskets. There are lilies in flower shops and plenty of egg coloring kits in every supermarket and candies on every shelf.

When I was growing up, back in the Ice Age, moral stories were common and children understood them. The “Three Little Pigs” was not just a story about three pigs building houses in the forest. It was a moral story about work ethic and the blessings of building things to last.

Jesus loved little children. When He was pressed by the crowds and probably weary from His labors, His disciples thought He shouldn’t want to be bothered with little children climbing all over Him. They were probably surprised when He said, “Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for such is the Kingdom of Heaven.”

Scriptures are like a rosebud that continues to bloom. Each petal that opens reveals more beauty and depth. At first glance, the scriptures are just interesting stories, but as you re-read and ponder them, they come alive with meaning and practical applications for life.

In our instant gratification world, where everything is spelled out in HD on the wide-screen television, and problems are shaped and solved in 30-minute increments, it is often difficult for a novice to understand the symbolism of the Bible.
