In this episode, you’ll get to know Progressive Dairy’s newest editor and podcast co-host, Kimmi Devaney. Kimmi comes to Progressive Dairy with a rich history in the dairy industry, which began on her grandparents’ farm in Washington.  During this interview, she tells listeners more about her career in public relations, the dairy programs that most impacted her personally and professionally, and why this new role is literally her dream come true.

In this episode, Editor Walt Cooley interviews two guests, Kurt Wierda of Plymouth Dairy in Le Mars, Iowa, and Tom Oelberg, formerly with Diamond V and an adviser on Kurt’s management team. Tom recently retired from Diamond V and is best known in the industry as the “grandfather of the TMR audit.” And Kurt’s dairy was one of the first dairies to do a TMR audit and has completed several since the program started in 2008. Overall, more than 12,000 such audits have been done on dairies around the world.

An area that many dairies struggle with, especially those using composted manure for bedding is this: Milk quality. It’s a common challenge for somatic cell counts to bounce all over the board when bedding with dried solids, and it requires an elevated level of both stall and parlor management to maintain udder health.

This episode includes presentations and interviews with the five technologies recently awarded with Nexus Innovation Awards at PDPW’s 2022 Business Conference. This is the second year such awards have been given out. Progressive Dairy partners with PDPW to sponsor these awards.
