In conjunction with the Western Section of the American Society of Animal Science (WSASAS) meeting, Leticia Camacho, Hannah Cunningham and Bryan Welly were honored as recipients of the 2014 Young Scholar Recognition Program award. Camacho was honored for her doctoral research, while Cunningham and Welly were honored for their master’s research.

  • Through Young Advocates for Agriculture Award, high school students are recognized for their grass-roots advocacy efforts in support of the agricultural industry. This year’s recipient, Sarah Schuster of Dane County, Wisconsin, was honored for her work in educating youth leaders and other 4-H members about the significance and value of science and technology in agriculture.
  • Brian and Carrie Preston of Quincy, Michigan, were selected as the state-winning 2014 Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) Outstanding Young Dairy Cooperators (OYDC). They represented MMPA’s District 1 and the Hillsdale-Litchfield Local at the annual OYDC conference.
  • In recognition of his innovative contributions to the education and advancement of bovine students and the dairy industry, Merck Animal Health and the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) presented John Fetrow, DVM, with the Mentor of the Year Award at this year’s AABP annual conference. PD The All-American Dairy Foundation has awarded Jaylene Lesher the 2014 Arthur W. Nesbitt Scholarship. The $1,000 award was presented to Lesher on Sept. 15.
  • At the 2014 AABP annual conference, Merck Animal Health recognized 15 of the industry’s top future leaders in bovine veterinary medicine and awarded each of them a $5,000 scholarship, as well as an all-expenses-paid trip to attend the conference.
  • At the 47th annual conference of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners, Dr. Angela M. Daniels, DVM, was recognized for her participation in the Dairy Quality Center’s Verified Premium Plus Program.
