The Progressive Publishing team is pleased to welcome two new faces to their staff this summer. Audrey Schmitz, a 2016 editorial intern, has been hired as a new editor with Progressive Dairyman. Schmitz began work in June and is responsible for writing feature stories and beat coverage for the publication. Jaclyn Krymowski will serve as this year’s editorial intern.

Audrey Schmitz

Schmitz graduated from Kansas State University with dual majors in agricultural communications and journalism, and animal sciences and industry. At K-State she served as the president of the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow and a member of the Dairy Science Club and collegiate dairy judging team.

“Audrey went above and beyond during her internship, and we’re grateful she joined our staff on a permanent basis. She has a bright, long-term future with us,” says Walt Cooley, editor-in-chief of Progressive Dairyman. “Readers can expect to see coverage from Audrey in the areas of herd health and feed and nutrition beginning this fall.”

Schmitz is from Axtell, Kansas, where she grew up on her family’s 90-cow Holstein dairy farm. She says she feels blessed to have grown up helping with chores, milking cows and caring for livestock. Schmitz says her upbringing inspired her to choose a career in agriculture and her years of participation in 4-H and FFA led her to become an agriculture communicator.

“It has always been my ambition to write for a dairy publication, and I'm ecstatic to start my professional career at Progressive Publishing,” Schmitz says. “I look forward to delivering useful and relevant content to our readers and connecting with industry leaders and producers from across the nation.”

Jaclyn Krymowski

Jaclyn Krymowski is a senior at Ohio State University, majoring in animal science with a minor in agricultural communications. Her internship will focus on writing feature stories and news articles for Progressive Dairyman. Back in Ohio, she holds part-time jobs as a milker at Miley Holstein Farms and a relief breeder with PT Enterprises. Her most recent communications experience was through her 2016 internship with the Kentucky Sheep and Goat Development Office, where she served as a public relations and communications intern.

“Jaclyn brings a passion for A.I. and breeding with her to the job this summer,” Cooley says. “We look forward to sharing her unique work with our readers.”

“Interning for Progressive Publishing gives me an opportunity to further my skills and gain experience all while serving an industry I’m most passionate about,” Krymowski says. “I’m looking forward to interacting with and learning from dairy producers and industry professionals across the country.”
