ASABE, the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers recently announced that GEA Houle has won two AE50 awards. GEA Houle developed the XPress, Cascading Roller Press and the XPulse, Twin Piston Pump, deemed two of the year’s most innovative designs in engineering products or systems for the food and agriculture industries.

Alain Courtemanche, president/CEO, GEA Houle Inc. says, "We are honored to receive our first AE50 award and recognition from ASABE for the development of the XPress and XPulse. The product development team worked with our dealers and dairy producers to develop these products to offer new manure transfer and processing solutions for our livestock customers. We are excited to offer the XPulse and XPress as part of GEA Farm Technologies complete line of manure handling equipment through our established dealership network."

The XPress, Cascading Roller Press System, is an integral part of a manure fiber separation system. The technology has come a long way since the first gallon of manure was processed with initial prototypes. The most common application will be to separate plant fiber from manure to produce a material suitable for bedding a dairy animal. The fiber bedding provides comfort in the animals lying area in a typical freestall dairy facility.

The XPulse, Twin Piston Pump, is designed to provide a steady material flow for long distance manure transfer or to feed manure processing equipment. The low horsepower, compact design leads to multiple uses in transferring typical manure slurries. Large inlets and an innovative flapper valve enable passage of large solids as well as the ability to self prime in a suction application.

Companies from around the world submit entries to the annual AE50 competition and up to 50 of the best products are chosen by a panel of international engineering experts. The judges select products that will best advance engineering for the food and agriculture industries. PD
