The Associated Press recently covered 600-cow Fesko Dairy’s installation of approximately 1,000 solar panels, costing more than $900,000. The improvement is expected to save $30,000 a year in electricity costs.

In a Star-Telegram article, 42-year-old Dean Strauss, who milks 1,900 cows, expressed relief that recent dairy bill compromise legislation did not include a supply management provision.

Krause Holsteins
Buffalo, Minnesota

The Post-Bulletin featured Krause Holsteins in connection with the dairy’s winning of the Minnesota Milk Producers Association 2013 Producers of the Year award. Krause Holsteins consists of 210 Holsteins and about 600 acres. The association praised the dairy’s sustainable practices, including energy-saving variable speed fans and LED lighting.
